Early start as we headed out to the desert. We got on the bus at the downtown bus station, which was nowhere near as nice, as the coach I had gone out in before. The bus seemed to take forever to get out of Cairo and once we were out of Cairo I slept for a while, before the driver put a very amusing movie called "Super Cop" starring Jackie Chan on the TV at full blast. It was funny to see the movie, which was originally filmed in Chinese, dubbed in English and sub-titled in Arabic.
We arrived at the Bahariya and there was someone there to meet us, who took us back to Ahmad's safari camp. We had lunch and hung around for a bit waiting for it to cool down, before heading off with our private driver and air-conditioned 4x4.
We started off with the Black desert and then went to the cool spring, which me and Tim swam in along with the driver. At this point the driver started to get a bit touchy feely with me and was making me very uncomfortable. This culminated, when I was sitting on the edge of the spring and he came up and ran his hands down the back of my legs. I had a go at him and told him to "Back off". He actually asked Fiona later, why I was angry with him. Geez I wonder.
After the spring, we drove off road for a while, which really was not necessary as the bitumen road was right next to us. The driver drove at ridiculous speed and kept looking in the back at me like he was showing off. Consequentially, the 4x4 overheated and we were stuck in the desert for a good half an hour waiting for it to cool back down.
After we managed to get the jeep started again we went to the White desert, we didn't see half the things we were supposed to see, but I think Tim and Fiona enjoyed it anyway. We watched the sunset, which was pretty spectacular and made all the better by the company of familiar faces, which until now had been an unfamiliar experience for me who is usually a lone wolf while on the road.
During dinner, the desert foxes came out and inspected us and we fed them our scraps. One fox came right up to me and took the food from my hand, it was really cool. We heard one fox making a screeching noise under the jeep and we thought another fox must be picking on him, but no he was just making a noise for the sake of it. Tim and I dubbed him, "Emo Fox".
The driver put out all the scraps for the foxes and a glass of water which they drank from and we sat and watched them and took pictures, there were probably about twenty of them all up. Before bed, I had to go to the "toilet" and one of the foxes followed me into the distance where I went behind a rock, with him watching with a confused look on his face. Amusing.
We went to sleep under one of the formations, and again, I woke up because I was cold. This was my last night of sleeping in the desert for this trip and it was truly wonderful, I am going to miss it so much.
