I woke up with a jump at 3am this morning for my trip down to Abu Simbel in the morning police convoy. I got dressed and walked down stairs and waited for the convoy vehicle to turn up. We got onto the bus and then waited in traffic for about 45 minutes for the convoy to get going. Once it got going I put my head phones on and watched the sunrise over the desert out the window. No matter how hard I tried, it was too difficult to stay awake and I soon blacked out.
I woke up and we were basically there already. We got out of the bus and were given tickets which included a guiding fee, for a guide we didn't need or want. Irritating. We walked around to the front of the temple and the rest of the group were amazed by the size of it. We went inside and this worm of a man kept following us around and telling me off for being a guide. Guy ended up getting really up in his face about it.
We went over to the temple of Nefertari, built to honor the beauty of Ramses wife and were actually allowed in. It was beautiful, last time I came down here it was closed for restoration.
We spent about two hours all together admiring Abu Simbel before jumping back on the convoy and going back to Aswan. The way back seemed a lot longer, but then again, I was awake the entire time
We spent the rest of the day trying to get over our trip to Abu Simbel and slept until about 3pm. Kath, Siobhan and I went off to McDonalds and then went for a walk through the souq, where I bought yet another lamp and Siobhan and I sat and chatted to the shop owner for a while, as he made her lamp by hand.
We spent quite a long time in the souq before heading back to the hotel, exhausted around 11pm.
