We finally went to pick up the camper van and we had a few minor set backs, when we arrived we were advised that all the roads out of Cairns were closed due to them being flooded, this is because all of the rain Cairns has been getting as its their wet season here.
We still decided against all odds we would take the camper so we we found ourselves a camp site in Cairns for that night which was very nice so we powered up the van and set up on the site. We stayed there for that night hoping the roads would open again in the morning, so after a few phone calls the follwing day we were advised that most of the flooded roads had been re-opened.
So we set out on our way upto Port Douglas, the drive to Port Douglas was very scenice and very beautiful. The roads hugged the coast right up to Port Douglas. We finally got there and the weather had really improved. We booked into a campsite right next to the beach.
We decided to head down to the famous four mile beach, we heard it was an amazing beach but when we got there due to all the bad weather the beach was covered in debris from all of the flooding. But never mind there are plenty of more beaches to visit on our journey.
That night we took a stroll into Port Douglas town, it was very nice but really small, we picked up a couple of steaks and cooked them at our campsite bbq, they were very tasty! The whole camping experience isn't that bad really but then again it is only day two!
Port Douglas was very nice and relaxing but we were keen to move on and get back on the road. So the next stop is Cape Tribulation.
