After Airlie Beach we headed down the coast and stayed at a place called 1770 which was really relaxing it was just what we needed after Airlie Beach. We stayed in a place called Southern Cross which was kind of like a retreat, it was very nice and chilled. After 1770 we headed down to Rainbow Beach as we had booked to go to Fraser Island from here. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and you go there for two days and two nights with a four wheel drive and camp in tents along the beach front. We were in a group of ten people and we had a really good group and everyone got along. So when we got to Fraser Island everyone took in turns to drive along the sand dunes, which was good fun! We basically had a map and was given all our camping gear and was on our way. It was really interesting because we had to go by the tide times and makesure we never got caught up in any high tides, apparently 300 cars a year are lost in the high tides! We also to had to set up camp which consisted of four tents and cooking for ourselves. It was a brilliant experience and we would both definitely do it again even though you do get sand everywhere and by the end of the three days we were all covered in sand!We did get to visit Lake Mackenzie and it was absolutely gorgeous, the colour of the water was amazing it was so clear. We went to all the main spots like Eli Creek, the shipwreck, Lake Wabby and the Champagne pools. The highlight of the couple days were definitely the champagne pools, they were huge rocks sticking out of the sea with the waves crashing over them into small pools making them look like champagne, they were amazing! We loved Fraser Island and we met some really nice friends there and would recommend Fraser to anyone!Next stop Brisbane again for a few nights!
