Day 21. In the morning we explored the village of Jabiru in Kakadu National Park, traditional lands of the Bininj and Mungguy people. By the lake we encountered a local seafood vendor so grabbed 1kg each of king prawns and bugs for tonight's dinner. After lunch Ross and Robyn drove us 40km out to the East Alligator River Region where Ross and I braved the dangerous crocodiles patrolling at Cahills Crossing. Fished for a while but no luck with the famed barramundi. Some brothers the other side of the river landed a catfish, the river fast and with lots of sediment. Raechel and Robyn watched with horror as their menfolk avoided the large crocodiles patrolling in the middle the river. But the best was yet to come in late afternoon sun when we walked the trails of Ubirr to see the wonderful rock art thousands of years old, and then a steep climb up on top of the escarpment to behold a wonderous view of the vast lush green Kakadu floodplain below. Absolutely breathtaking! Back to the van park after dusk for showers and a feast of barbecued prawns and bugs with a couple of cold Coopers and wine. We settled into our comfy armchairs outside to watch the ABC program 'George Gently'. A fabulous day!
