Today we walked all along the water front of the old town and the venetian harbor of Rethymno. We paid a visit to the archeological museum which contained artifacts dating back to the 4th cent BC up to statues from the first and second century AD. Its mind blowing to think they have recovered all of these in Crete and its hard to wrap your mind around how old it is! We then toured around the venetian fortress built in 1576 that towers over the rest of Rethymno. Many cool things to see such as a mosque and armory inside the walls while walking along the top of the wall offers stunning panoramic views of the city! We had a delicious lunch at Lemonokipos in the middle of the old town. Not only was the food delicious it was cool sitting in a sheltered courtyard shaded by the lemon trees which created a nice atmosphere! We then wandered through the streets of the old town and slowly made our way back to our place and finished off the afternoon at the beach and went for a swim! Tomorrow we are traveling to Iraklio (also known as Heraklion) and will spend our last 2 nights in Crete there.
