Today was a sort of rest day with no real set plans of what we were going to see or do. We slept til about 8.30, and then decided to head to the catacombs again to see if they had reopened, but alas no they had not, so then it was on to port de versailles to see if we could find if the Tutankhamen expo was still on. Once we arrived and got off the train we found the beginning of the expo but it was the wrong pavilion, though Trent's little eyes lit up when he realised it was the Paris gaming week expo (console games that is) so after parting with almost €30 to get in there, it was like all Trent's dreams had come true, it was quite interesting to see all these gaming nerds in one room, to see them get excited and screaming and yelling to get a preview of pre-release games was quite tragic to be honest, but then again I got heart palpitations over Harry potter :). After a little time
of looking around the gaming expo we decided it was time to head out to the Tutankhamen pavilion. We came out of the gaming expo and crossed the road to the next pavilion where we found a chocolate expo which of course caught both our attention. We quickly parted with the € to get in there and OMG I have never experienced anything like it, it was like the size of the Brisbane Convention centre packed with miles and miles of chocolate of all shapes, sizes and flavours. If only I could have taken it home I could have gone crazy but we were very good only buying some nougat that sits for a year prior to being opened up and some blocks of chocolate. It was sweet tooth heaven, though the French don't seem to understand hygiene and I hate to think how much faeces I ingested by eating the samples, ha ha gross. We finally finished wondering around there and moved on to find the Tutankhamen expo was finished. Oh well it was worth the trip out here. We then headed to the Louvre and thank God it was so late in the day, there was no line up, we ran straight to the Mona Lisa and it was like seeing a pop star, so many people pushing and crowding around trying to take a picture of her. We finally pushed our way to the front and got to take a photo or two and then moved onto the next thing we wanted to see. We didn't spend that much time there but got to see what we wanted, statue of Ramses, Venus de milo, sphinx, amazing paintings, beautiful sculptures and awesome Egyptian artefacts. It had been a really long day so we headed from the Louvre to dinner, we headed to a restaurant that had great reviews on trip advisor for traditional French cuisine. It was a little tucked away restaurant that I'm glad I had my GPS to help us find it. It was such a cute quaint place and the staff were so warm and welcoming. I was so excited to order my snails, frogs legs and sorbet. We got to start our meals with a sample foi gras mousse and although it was very strong in flavour I thoroughly enjoyed it, Trent not so much. The snails were amazing, who would have thought but they were a little seafood tasting, bit like a scallop. The frogs legs were amazing, didn't taste like anything I had before (others compared to chicken but I wouldn't), the sorbet just topped it all off, strawberry, lemon and green apple although, after eating it I was freezing. It was an amazing meal to say au revoir to Paris. On the way back to the hotel we stopped by the Eiffel Tower to see it all lit up and I'm glad we did, just amazing who would think it could get any better. Off to the hotel to bed its been a looooooong day. Off to versailles tomorrow.
