Well it was an overcast day today bit yucky but didn't look like rain thank goodness, we went for a walk towards the waterfront and although it was Sunday and everything was shut it was a really dodgy place, lots of middle eastern men lurking around watching you, we had read before arriving here to be really careful as there are alot of bag snatching etc we are always really alert and aware of our surroundings, my handbag is alway under my jacket and I hold tight to my camera. We got to the waterfront to find it surrounded by road works so we couldn't get a proper look at it. We walked all the way around the works and found some stairs heading up some kind of old fort so we headed up those for a look and found a surprising view, it was beautiful, though yes it would have been heaps better if the sun was out for my photos. We stumbled upon a beautiful cathedral, for an accidental stumble it was amazing inside, not so much to look at on the outside but worth it on the inside. Although I'm not religious I always find going into a church to be safe and secure, it's a nice warm and fuzzy feeling. We then walked the route of the old town, lots of beautiful buildings and alleyways. Marseilles seems to be a colourful place with an interesting history, it's the oldest city in France. But it also felt very unsafe and dirty in places. It started to get dark and had started to rain a little so we headed back to the hotel. We went to get some dinner from the little pub/cafe across the road but the kitchen had closed at 6pm arrrggghh so we had to eat in the hotel and all they had were microwave meals, not great, oh well it was food and we could have an early night. Off to Nice tomorrow, looking forward to that.
