Got off to an early start. Caitlyn and I (JB) headed off on a fishing trip so left the park at 5 am to get on the water before sunrise. We spent several hours trolling the river with no success. It must have been the coldest day in Darwin. It was 7 degrees on the water and we had jumpers on till 10am!!! As such the fish were not interested in taking the lures. Towards lunch Caitlyn had a strike and landed a small barra. The first and only for the day. It was a nice day on the water with plenty of bird life and croc sightings. In five minutes we saw six crocs all over 5 m long, one massive one closer to six. Anyway that's how fishing goes some time. JB
Meanwhile......
Angie, Jacob and I slept in. We slowly got ready and headed to the Darwin museum. They had a nice collection of natural history items, a display on cyclone Tracey and "Sweetheart" the 5m saltwater croc. After lunch we went to the water park. Angie LOVED the water slides, Jacob was a bit less keen.
We headed to Mindil Beach for the Territory Day celebrations - markets and fireworks. We grabbed some food from the market stalls (and free stubby holders and thongs) and headed to to beach to watch the sunset and fireworks. It was amazing - and crazy. There were private fireworks going off everywhere. Everywhere you could see- the headlands, beaches and out on the water there were fireworks. These NT folk are a crazy bunch :)
The proper firework show was spectacular! It was probably the best I have seen and sitting there looking out over the ocean was amazing.
