Today we headed for Butterfly Spring in Limmen National Park. First stop however was Borroloola to get a few fresh supplies. Coming into town we crossed over McArthur River - a massive river which heads straight to the gulf. It must get a massive flow in it during the wet season.
The road today into and thru most of the NP was very rough, which is understandable as even four weeks ago it was closed due to the wet season. It was again a very slow drive but made easier once we reached where the graders had got to.
We were going to stop at the Lost City for a walk but decided to push on to Butterfly Spring today and grab a good camp spot and a late lunch. We will back track in the morning without the van to walk thru the Lost City.
Butterfly Springs, as its name suggests has thousands of butterflies. They all hang out on the side of a cliff face and when the kids when to check them out they were swamped with butterflies. Jacob proudly even told me that he had one land in his back and touched another. You can swim here and it was a welcome relief to the heat. We all had fun splashing in the water and swimming out to the waterfall (spring comes out above the waterfall) and even got to see close up a water monitor sunning itself on the rocks in the afternoon sun - fortunately he is biggest thing around in this swimming hole.
The camp site is nice and for $7.70 a night for a family, it is great. Only facilities are pit toilets so another night making do with just a refreshing dip to wash the dust off.
