We had a slower start to the day but still on the road by 9:30. We checked out a few billabongs along the highway between Jabiru and Corroboree Inn. We arrived around lunch. The kids were excited to see they had two crocs on site; a 4.5m saltie and 2 m freshie. They weren't the finest specimens around and they looked a bit bored in there smallish enclosures. There were also several feral pigs and a couple of water buffalo (one albino). After lunch the kids had a good swim in the pool. They also checked out the 1.1m skull of a saltie on display, apparently the croc was 7 m long. It had been caught up in a fishing net and 'drowned'. The fishermen were taking photos of their heads in its mouth when shortly after it started to wake up. It was promptly dispatched with an axe!! We all had an early dinner and headed out to Corroborree Billabong for a boat tour ( half the price of Kakadu tours). On arrival we spotted a croc lurking near the boat ramp so I then proceeded to have a quick fish with no big strikes. The tour got underway and as usual the kids grabbed the window seats. Our first croc sited was a half meter saltie, very cute and adorable. The first half hour spent upstream produced a small number of crocs slipping silently beneath the water. We then headed downstream to Lilly alley and began to see a large number of crocs on the bank. There were salties and freshies within a couple of metres of each other. They all looked very healthy and sleek. We saw a 3m close to the boat, Angela graciously let me have the outer seat after that :) We ended up seeing about 16 crocs, 10 salties and 6 freshies. The largest being a 5m monster swimming in the water away from the boat. There were plenty of birds also sited; sea eagles, jabiru, magpie geese and many other water birds. We watched the sunset over the water and had a very relaxing tour, well worth the drive and the saved expense. JB
