Today we left KFC and headed for the NT border. On the way we stopped at Hells Gate Roadhouse. It is actually a really nice spot with a grassed camping ground. We refuelled and the kids got an ice block. We also got the run down on the road ahead and some possible roadside camps. We also got some advice: don't swim in the water (crocs), don't go down to the water at dawn and dusk (crocs), look for slide marks on the western bank (crocs), little slide marks means that there will be a cranky mummy around.....
We crossed into the Northern Territory just before lunch and said goodbye to Queensland for the rest of the trip.
After a day on the road with a fair share of corrugations and wash outs we are camped on at a Wearyan River crossing about 60km from Borroloola. There was enough shallow water at the crossing that the kids got to have a splash in the water- though Joel and I were on constant lookout. The kids also decided to have a design competition where they had to make things out of bush materials. Caitlyn of course came up with Hunger Games themed weapons, Angie with jewellery and Jacob made an incredible bird out of leaves.
Joel had a water down to the water at night to get some pics- and spotted a pair of red eyes watching him from out in the deeper water. We will count that as our first croc for the trip.
