Day 302, 2 May 2013, Manhattan, New York - Headed down to the Brooklyn Bridge - took in the views and then had lunch in crazy mad Chinatown - always excellent value - Shanghai cuisine on Mott Street. Even found a sunhat that looks relatively cool - vital because the weather is really warming up for us - been in snow and winter since November! Wandered through Little Italy which was a Little Touristy - but interesting to see Mulberry Street (obviously I'm a Billy Joel fan). Walked the shops on Broadway, Fifth Avenue and eventually made it back to Times Square to figure out a strategy for a cheap show - have decided TKTS in the square is not cheap enough - so took a chance at the Marquis theatre and got Rush seats for only $32 each to Jekyll & Hyde. It really is almost cheaper to go to a Broadway show than it is to go to a movie. This production features R&B singer Deborah Cox - who actually stole the show - great special effects and an efficient production of the story - but just a touch formulaic and reminded me at least of the music and style of the Phantom of the Opera. Great show, had fun - but if it was your only show on Broadway... wouldn't recommend it. However... The exit of the Marquis is right next door to the Imperial Theatre where Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day off) is starring in the Gershwin musical "Nice Work if you can get it" - photo opportunity! Gave in to vanity and joy today and bought some shoes - can't live with hiking boots, clapped out ballet flats and beach shoes anymore... James and I had a great time scoping out the options on 8th avenue and eventually came up with a perfect pair of lightweight, semi-heeled wedges with some bling. Spot on! Awesome to dress up for the first time since we left home!
