Day 194, 14 January 2013, Bansko, Bulgaria. Setting some sort of record, I decided to have a rest day after one day's skiing - James powered on however and had a huge day out with Vasil conquering the Red and Black slopes of Bansko resort. Pictured is a sunset viewed from the main street when we went out for dinner. Rest day on the home front was very peaceful - nothing an entire morning in bed reading and napping can't cure. Had a walk around town on our search for dinner. It's a funny old place. Lots of attempts to lure the almighty pound sterling over from London ("Queen's Pub anyone?). Sex Shops on every block and for every sex shop at least 4 sweet shops. Gives you an idea of priorities and proprieties. Beer costs around €1 a litre from the store or €2 in a restaurant. A massive slice of street pizza is €1. Average monthly earnings are around €350 which might explain the legendary grumpiness. Local currency is not even the Euro (but it helps to explain the cost of living). Here it is the Lev. 100 stotinki to the Lev. Roughly 1 Lev is 50 euro cents. As you can see, working on the mantra.... Just think of the money. Will look back fondly on Bansko I suspect when we return to London for a couple of days prior to moving on to Italy. Back into the skiing tomorrow. Thank goodness for the lack of mid-week crowds.
