Day 354, 23 June 2013, Finally - it's Sunday and the day for BA's famous San Telmo Flea market. Yay! We didn't want to be too early and by the time we were up and out the door it was past 11 am. Not too much of a drama as it turns out since the start of Defensa Street was around 5 minutes walk away (definitely looked further on the map). This market seems to go for miles. And when you think the end is in sight, more miles. Then when the stalls on the street finish, there is a square filled with antique stalls, tango displays, buskers and everything under the sun. It had slightly more touristy junk than the artisans market at Recoleta - but this was offset by the stunning antiques to be browsed both on street stalls, in shops and in the original covered San Telmo antiques market. From start to finish including a stop for lunch at an Indian restaurant, we were there for over six hours. We bought a few trinkets and had a freshly squashed orange juice on the street and a chocolate & caramel cake after lunch. Enjoyed hearing tango music everywhere. It truly seemed that most of the residents of Buenos Aires were in San Telmo today. Footsore and weary we made it back sometime after 5 o'clock. Ability to count in Spanish improving with every market experience. Obviously not the cheapest way to learn Spanish, but certainly the most fun.
