Day 349, 18 June 2013, Puerta Iguazu (Argentina) - to Buenos Aires (Don't Cry for Me,Argentina). Been looking forward to our BA time for a while now - 8 days in one place - chance for actual laundry to be done. One of the things we never realised before our adventure is how much we appreciate machine washing... hot soapy water, agitation, spin cycle... and then, to top it all off - a clothes dryer... At least that's what we're hoping for in BA! It's been a funny old week or so since San Francisco - constantly on planes it has seemed. Today's flight went without a hitch and due to the impossibility of checking in online with LAN using an iPad, we checked in the the airport and the Exit Row Fairy Godmother smiled upon us. Almost (!) a shame the flight was only 2 hours. In any event, the airport in BA is so close to the ocean, I truly thought we were in for a water landing. Quick trip to the city - huge, massive city - 13 million souls in one place - 10th most populous city in the world and 3rd largest in South America after Sao Paulo and Mexico City. Staying at the Reino Del Plata - central, clean, modern, and only a few dollars more expensive than a private room in a hostel. All good - took a stroll around the block. Realised very quickly that Portenos (as the folk of this port city are known) are not actually bad drivers - they just drive with their eyes shut. Took a stroll along the main pedestrian shopping district, Calle Florida, hunted some cheese, crackers and wine and had the compulsory horrible first night meal (note to selves - avoid restaurants that are reduced to handing out flyers in the street). And a relatively early night - hitting the free walking tours tomorrow, with a vengeance. BA. Bring it on.
Today's picture is on a building on one of the main avenues... obviously a striking resemblance to Madonna!
