Last night we arrived at camp at about 6ish and headed straight to the Grand Canyon. Before we got to see the Canyon out guide, Sabrina made us all close our eyes and hold onto the person in front, she then walked us to the viewing point where we opened out eyes. I guess I didn't really know what to expect but I was blown away but the enormity of the canyon. It was huge, it extends for 277miles and is 18 miles wide at it's largest point (average 10 miles wide). It was so cool to see the canyon. Definitely the highlight of my trip so far! Especially as it's one of the 7 natural wonders of the world! That evening we went out for pizza :)
Today was a fab day! We were up at 4.30am so that we could get to the canyon for 5.45 to see the sunrise. Sadly it was quite misty so we had to wait for the sun to burn through before we were able to see the canyon. It was still pritty cool to be up early and at the Grand Canyon! After many photos (including completely scaring myself by climbing over the barrier and sitting on the edge of a rock...to get that picture that everyone else had got! Fool). We got some coffee to fuel us for our walk and jumped on the bus which would take us to the trail that led to Cesars Ridge. It took us about 45 mins to walk down to Cesars ridge, it was beautiful! We sat on the ridge with the wild squirrels for a while taking it all in, I was more impressed that I thought I would be, it's just huge! There are opportunities to do treks to the base of the canyon, stay in a lodge and then hike back up, I would love to do that one day! It took us about an hour to walk back up, it was a steep incline but after spending a lot of time sitting in the van it was nice to feel my muscles burn....or at least that's what I kept telling myself thanks to my dad drumming it into me during my marathon training...'learn to love the burn!'
After lunch we went to 'Bright Angel trail' after getting half way down the trail we realised that it all looked the same and there was no point pushing ourselves! Lol! Mum, Dad...yes I know this was lazy of me!
That afternoon I was able to wash and dry all my clothes!! Such a luxury :) we met a very lovely old lady who put some more money in the dryer for felicity when she realised the clothes were still damp! Fliss offered her money but the lady declined and just asked that fliss did a good deed for someone else instead :) so lovely!
Today (11.09.14) we are heading to Monument Valley, to stay with a Nevajo Indian tribe!
