Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We did a self-guided 4wd tour today at Willow Springs called Skytrek. It took us 5 hours to do the 80km loop on the 70 000 acre sheep station. The first half was nice enough but the value came from when we eventually reached the ridgetop climb and had fantastic views over the Flinders Ranges. I was quite nervous going up the ridges as we didn't have low range working but it was worth the tense moments once we reached the lookouts.
One of the points of interest was the Old Moxans' Hut which was built in the early 1900's and was occupied until the early 1960's by station employees. We were also lucky enough to see some Wedge Tailed Eagle chicks which was really cool...although they have an evil look on their face.
On the trek back to camp we went to the Appealina Ruins which were a place of great disputes over many years between the lease holder (Wills) and the miners. The Wills house was not it good condition with much of it being very fragile. In contrast, the Miner's Manager's House was standing strong and the professional workmanship in the build could clearly be seen. This quality of build has been quite rare to see amongst all the ruins we have visited.
It was so windy this afternoon that we moved the camper further away from the tree and there is a lightning storm in the distance cooling the temperature down from yesterday.
