Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We waited until the rain cleared so we could pack up dry, which meant for a lazy morning and that was good. We caught a car ferry across the Murray Bridge with a semi trailer and had lunch at Meningie by the lake.
We were going to stop at Coorong National Park but with the bad weather at the moment and no signs of improvement for a few days, we are moving on. This place is about the beaches and water, so a kayak or small boat would probably make this place more enjoyable on the lagoon side and it's definitely a place where you want the sun shining to enjoy it. We still drove in to 42mile creek where I'd planned on camping and there was no one else there. There were predicted thunderstorms in the area so I wasn't keen on camping alone. We disconnected the trailer and went for a drive up the beach which was like a rollercoaster ride sitting high up the beach. The seas were rough here.
We stopped at the Granites which was our next place we thought we would camp. The beach was a huge contrast to Coorong beach with the waters extremely calm. The camp (which was a carpark) was exposed and once again no one else there. Which would normally be great but once again in a thunderstorm I would prefer the company of others. So we headed to Kingston which ended up being the best camp. It was a free spot provided by the council right opposite the jetty, had a grassed area, toilets and a great park for the kids. Plus there were about 8 other people camping here. A perfect spot except there was some noise at night from some roughies across in the carpark which kept Matt awake. Other than that, one of the best free camps.
We dropped by the Big Lobster (a.k.a. Larry) and took a drive on Lacepede Bay which is a beautiful calm water bay.
One thing Matt has been noticing is how good all the boat ramps are in these small towns. It puts the Gold Coast to shame considering there is such a big boating scene on there.
