Nikki's World Travels
The campers awoke to the thunderous sound of rain pounding on the outside of their somewhat delapidated hostel ready and waiting for the days events to unveil. Now some might think that walking in flip flops in the pouring rain is an easy task but alas this was not the case as nikki slipped and slided almost falling on her newly oversized arse (someone should really tell her to lay off the candies!!). Once arrived at the glacier centre the task of dressing up as michelin man was now upon all the newly welcomed hikers. Now as nikki reached forward to take the medium sized trousers she should've learnt from previous experince that this would prove to be a tricky task so while everyone else slipped into their over trousers, nikki stood in the corner yanking and pulling the trousers up to no avail! Finally the groups were assembled looking like they were ready to embark on an expedition in the snow to find a long lost yeti! Now as the teams were being formed the hikers picked their groups on their ability 1-5 obviously 1 being the highest for those budding olympic athletes - nikki was ready to jump forward and select group number 2 thinking yes this is the one for me - i can show those others up until she looked across the icy path and laid her eyes upon a dark stranger! So being the athletic and professional person she is she selected group number 5 with the rather dishy dark eyed, blond haired guide - how shallow!!!
So the day began, the group being a couple of canadians (who moaned the whole day, and they say its the brits that are the whingers!!), sarah, steve, tasha, andrea and fiorella! The day started well as they trudged thru the forest part to reach the glacier, hoods were raised and faces were hiding from the incoming rain - nikki thought all she needed at the time was a gun to reenact the viet cong - well she had the boots to match! Climbing the self cut ice steps was no easy task so the rope attached to the side was a good option for the hikers seeing that there was a 100m drop the other side - ok now that is a slight exaggerration as it was prob about 10m but im tryin to create an atmosphere here so please just go with it!!) Throughout the day the hikers endured several tests marking thier strength as nikki found out when abseiling (well more like climbin but again going for effect) down the ice face when zut alors her foot slipped as she was suspended in air gripping tightly to the rope - whilel maintaining her calmness she quickly retracted into the ice cliff and thought of the possibility of slipping those last 100m ok actually it was 100cm! Other tasks included squeezing inbetween 2 sheets of ice - nikki led this perilous journey and maintained a slow speed throughout as although the others believed she was maintaining control it was more to do with squeezing her arse in between the sheets - not an easy task to do - again someone should tell her to lay off the eating out!! As we continued our journey up and over the ice we came across an ice cave so decided to delve deeper into the depths of the unknown to find on the other side a ice water lake - funnily enough none of the hikers took up the guides invitation of a swim! The last adventurous task was wading through the ice cold water gripping onto the sides of the ice - even though this task made nikki's fingers feel non existant it was better than diving headfirst into the deep water crevasse! Thankfully everyone passed this with flying colours and all made it dryish to the other side!
In the end the group number 5 as in the slow and take it easy group made it higher on the ice than group 1 and were the last to come down as by that point the guide had made ice warriors out of the pitiful so-called hikers he was landed with at 9am in the morning! So all in all the day was a great success with beautiful, scenic views. The rain subsided and some photos were taken in the euphoria of the moment that was. With one last look at the hunky guide the girls said a fond farewell while the guys tried to think about what he had that they didnt. The hikers descended off the glacier tired and weary but full of enthusiasm for the beer that awaited them at the hostel bar so they all drank to life and good health as the sun fell inbetween the snow caped mountains.
