Nikki's World Travels
Well that bottom bus was good crack (get the pun there? maybe not!) Anyhoo, left queenstown and embarked on the bottom bus around the bottom part of the south island. Our 1st stop was Dunedin but before that we did a walk down to tunnel beach and visited the steepest street in the world (no i didnt walk up it as had no time - shame!). Dunedin was nice and our hostel was great - the majority of people stayed at a new main hostel but ive had enough of those places as really lack character and nobody speaks as too stuck up for their own good so me and 2 other girls stayed at Adventurer and it was lovely. There was an open kitchen looking out onto the lounge which had no TV which is a really good idea as more people speak that way and i found teh hostel super friendly. The 1st day i did a cadbury factory tour and got some free samples which we used in our pancakes that night for shrove tuesday - yum yum yum!! That night some welsh guy who was bored that day made up a quiz for a $1 entry so we made a team up of 5 of us and ended up winning but only got $2 each but that was better than nothing - q pleased really. I decided as well as Jen did to stay in dunedin for a bit - its a major uni town alot like cardiff so felt v at home there. Next day it rained loads so didnt get to do much but we did go out that night for Deanna'a bday which was fun but we did loads of walking around town to find somewhere nice to eat. Some guys dragged on to us for a bit and one who was a right idiot wanted to put his credit card behind the bar for our drinks - i gave him my money for the drinks but he didnt want it just wanted to be a flash git as my mother would call it. So i got a couple of free drinks - not too bad!
The following day we were a lil worse for ware so me and Jen in the afternoon had a walk around town to the university and the botanical gardens.
Our next port of call was Curio Bay where there is a population of about 12! We tried to look out for penguins but didnt manage to see them - we could of stayed out longer but was already freezing! That night on a whim 5 of us (me, jen, andrea, yvonne and deanna) decided to go to Stewart Island and in the end we ended up having our own 5 seater plane - v cool! The bus driver was an a******* though as he garanteed us a place on the bus for tue but when we rang up there was no seat blah blah blah so after alot of arguement they organised us a atomic shuttle and wanted us to pay so we argued more and they eventually gave in and paid!
Anyway, stewart island was alot of fun - we stayed in a hostel which was more like a house with a woman there who liiked some woman out of dynasty! But she was friendly enough. We did some walks there, got caught in the rain a bit. Also got a water taxi to Ulva island - we went to one of the bays there and came across a v friendly wekka bird that ended up following us i mean we would call its name (ok we named him herbert) and he would follow for like 25mins - so cute!! So that was pretty much stewart island - really relaxing time.
When we got back we stayed in Invercargil (teenage pregnancy capital - i swear!!) for one night. We gorged on pizza hut for lunch then watche dthe oscars in the eveving.
Now one of the things the bottom bus does is stop at dif points of interest - however on the atomic shuttle this isnt possible but there is one point called McCrakens Rest where everyone sits on the sign with their cracks out so we asked the driver to stop so 5 girls could get their butts out and he was more than willing to stop! So had my photo taken on a sign with my crack out (now you wont find that photo on this site as it aint pretty!!)
So got to Te Anau ready for the next days trip to Milford Sounds.
Milford Sounds which actually isnt a sound but a fjord was beautiful. It was raining alot before we got their which is good as it created more waterfalls and once we got on the boat it stopped raining. The trip lasted 1hr40 and saw some wonderful snow caped peaks, some seals, gorgeous waterfalls and took way too many photos. At one point the boat goes striaght into a waterfall and of course us girls were in firing range so got completely soaked!! After the trip we headed back to queenstown where i spent another 2 nights.
We went out the 1st night and got q drunk and did some crazy arsed funky dancing to the likes of Tiffany and Macarena - oh the days!! Felt not so great the next day so went and got a famous ferg burger (veggie style of course!!) then went up the gondala to the view point. That night we stayed in watching really bad tv under duvets and eating chocolate - nice one for the figure!!
Thats all from the south as headin up north tomo to christchurch - again!
love nikki
