Today was our last day in Rome so we have made the most of it, and sat in an Irish pub for 2 hours watching the football match!
To be honest it wasn't that bad because we got out of the sun at the hottest part of the day, which was about 37 degrees! On the way to the pub we popped into our favourite bakery (we're regulars there now!) and got a nice little sandwich for lunch- the cheap way to do Rome!
After sitting in the pub for two hours I left with a happy Shaun because we won! (thankfully!) We then went back to the mouth of truth and had our photos taken because we missed it by 5 minutes yesterday!! Shaun reckons it would look better with a hat, some shades and a cigar- yeah ok! :S
We then wondered through the quieter streets of Rome and took in the atmosphere. We also found the most useless shop by far in Rome- a sunbed shop! (especially after the colour of us last night!)
After a few stops for ice cream and fanta we headed back to the hotel and then headed out for tea. On the way to the bus we stopped off at our favpurite cocomero (watermelon!) stand and got a massive chunk of juicy watermelon!
We got the bus back to Trastevere (for the 3rd night in a row!) for a restaurant for tea. We missed our stop on the bus so ended up at the far end of Trastevere and came across this restaurant which looked dead busy (that usually means its good in Italy!) We went in and it was just mayhem, but the food was really nice! We had bruscetta (the italians love their crusty bread!) and I had carbonara- as usual! Shaun had this gnocchi dish with mussels and clams (so I looked away while he picked that apart!)
After the restaurant we walked to this piazza where loads of people were crowding round. It was this old lady dancing that we saw on the first night we came to Trastevere! She basically stands there with a ghettoblaster waving her arms back and forth- doesn't move any other part of her body, just stands and smiles. The funniest bit is that she must be at least 80! and it looks like shes a bit of a local phenomenon!
So we're back in our favourite place with the €3.50 cocktails! (although I'm glad we're not dying of thirst!)
So overall Rome has been really good! There have been times that I've been bored, with ruins or museums, but its a lovely city to explore! The weather has been good and so has the food! I'm going to drink this cocktail then head over to our favourite wifi enabled gelatto bar to upload this. Get a tiramisu from our favourite bakery (its open beyond midnight and theres always a queue- thats how good it is!) then pack, the sleep!
Good night! xxx
