We checked out of George's apartment/ b&b this morning and got a jolly goodbye! He was a bit of a character, only said a few words but got the always message across! Whenever he saw me all he would say is "aaaaay! Natasha!" ha ha! He would do the same with Shaun but never get the pronunciation quite right!
We had breakfast in a little cafe, a cornetti (pastry) and a cappuccino, and made a final visit to the bakery for a sandwich for lunch- I will miss that bakery! If you ever go to Rome its called Dolce Marina (I think!) and its on a road up from the vatican (thats the best directions I can give!)
We walked to St Peters square (or St Pauls as I always called it!) and had a last little look and bought some presents and souvenirs to bring home. There seemed to be alot of people begging around Rome, but nothing beats the two blokes we saw in Naples. One was in various places around Naples, the first time we saw him, he had a big massive fluffy white dog and... a little white duck! Yes, a dog and a duck! So he got named the dog and duck man! I tried to tell Shaun that I thought that the dog and duck might think they're related because they were both white, but he just laughed at me! I can't imagine having a pet dog and duck, I think they would fight! The second man we saw begging was sitting next to a guy selling things that dance to music so he had a ghettoblaster, and when we walked past he was playing the song "I need a dollar" by Alo Black! I thought that was a bit insensitive but it was a little amusing! I'm not laughing at homeless people, just at little scenes that we found amusing at the time!
So anyway, back to Rome, we left St Peters and got the bus to the station and had our sandwich (proscuitto and cheese- again!) and went for the train- which was a bit stressful! We got on and realised we had to change but we didn't know where so Shaun chased a woman down the platform to ask her! Then we had to fight for a seat and eventually got one after half an hour.
When we got to the hotel we realised we had picked the best hotel ever! Its the chocohotel in Perugia, and everything is chocolate themed! When we checked in the woman gave us free chocolate and told us where the swimming pool and bar was! She looked a little shocked when I said "oh I could kiss you right now!" but I was so relieved to be at the hotel, and a nice one at that! When we got off the train we passed a pizzeria with a thermometer outside that read 43 degrees! Its hot! Needless to say we went straight to the pool!
After a gorgeous shower we headed out for some tea- we didn't venture very far, just to the chinese restaurant next door! I thought that we would be sampling the finest of italian cooking in Perugia and we went for a chinese! It was lovely though, a full 3 course meal with sides and a big glass of coke! Just what was needed after pizza and pasta overload! So we're back in the hotel bar surrounded by chocolate themed things! I feel like I've died and gone to heaven!
