Today we woke up early (well, I woke up early and dragged Shaun out of bed!) and went to the Vatican! We went early because we heard that people often queue for hours! We only queued for an hour and got in at around about half 9. There was loads of artwork and sculptures (Italians obviously really like this sort of thing!) and we eventually reached the cistine chapel. To be honest I wasn't that overwhelmed! It was a small room with hundreds of people crammed inside (all getting sneaky pictures- as I did too!). There were some nice paintings but it was all too much for one room! I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I have developed a hatred for tour groups! You will be looking at something in a gallery or museum and a group of about 40 people will come and stand infront of you! But anyway, the cistine chapel- it wasn't what I was expecting but it was nice, not as impressive as I'd imagined!
After feeling a little disappointed we went for lunch and has lasagne, again! I think I'm a little sick of Italian food to be honest but we'll put up with it for another two weeks!
After lunch we went to St. Peters Cathedral (I've been calling it St. Pauls all day!) and had a look inside, including the crypts downstairs! To be honest I know its meant to the best cathedral in the world but they all look the same after a while!
Shaun decided he wanted to go to the top of the dome and see out above Rome. So we paid €5 and climbed 551 stairs right to the top! By the time I got there I just wanted to collapse! The views were lovely, and Shaun got some photos of me looking rather fed up at the top!
It wasn't until we came out of St. Peters and had been in the Vatican that we realised why we were so underwhelmed- we have absolutely no interest in religion! oh well! These things are nice to see and to say that we've been!
After a little snooze back at the hotel we then went out for tea, it was a toss up between subway, a kebab shop or burger king!! I'm ashamed to say the kebab shop won, and it was the most beautiful kebab ever!
We're just in a bar now stealing the free wifi!
Bonesera!!! :D xxx
