Well you'll be pleased to know after our nightmare with the laundry last night, it was all dry this morning! Its hardly surprising when its still around 25oC at midnight!
Today has been ridiculously hot! We started off by posting some postcards from the Vitican. (one is on the way if you were one of the lucky few that I sent one to!) We popped into the gelatto bar where we can steal free wifi and the guy was like "come in! come in! your white English skin will burn in this hot sun!" Aye, cheeky git! Well, looking in the mirror now, he was right!
Shaun got talking to him about football while I sat there bored, then the guy showed us a few bits to see around Rome on our map. So off we went on the metro to Palatine Hill where there are loads if Roman ruins. But to be honest we didn't really know what was what because all the information was in Italian and we didn't take the guide book! After a while it all just looked like a bricks to me. I know its all really nice but I'm a bit bored with churches, museums, paintings and ruins! Theres just so much of it to see that theres too much!
It got to about 4pm and we hadn't had any lunch so we headed over to Piazza Venezia and stopped off at a cafe, which I wasn't very impressed with. They see tourists coming a mile off abd charge loads! But by that time I was starving and would have ate anything!
We headed back out and went into this big white building (I don't know what its called!) in Piazza Venezia where there was yet another museum! and a terrace with some nice views of the colosseum and the rest of Rome. After a while the heat was starting to get to us (the locals reckon the temperature is hitting 38oC!) so we went to look at one last thing- the mouth of truth. Its like this big circle face where you put your hand in its mouth and its meant to know of your telling the truth. (theres one in the Metrocentre!) We eventually found it and saw a notice saying closed at 17:50, we looked at our watches and it was 17:55! Typical! Feeling slightly gutted we headed back to the metro with that on our list of things to do tomorrow!
After rubbing aftersun in all our burnt bits and downing a warm bottle of Strongbow gold (it's definately not proper Strongbow!) we headed out to get the bus back to Trastevere. Last night we didn't have a clue how to get there so we asked this nice looking Italian man (that Shaun nicknamed Julio) with a dog (aka Benny!) who of course didn't speak any English! But we managed to figure out what he was saying and got on the right bus! He saw us this morning and asked if we got the right bus, (well we assume he did!) Italians are nice people! Although we seem to have come across some of the few people in Rome who speak little or no English! It hasn't been too bad though, we've been picking up bits of the lingo, I struggle at times (like when I greet people with gratzi- thank you!)
When we got to Trastevere we headed straight to the cocktail bar we went to last night and had the same cocktails! A mojito and a strawberry daquari, both for €7.50! Obviously we hadn't had any tea so after not eating for hours they went straight to my head! We stumbled onto the street and I let Shaun choose a restaurant! We went to this restaurant and had a full italian meal; bruchetta, lasagne, steak and dessert (that Shaun ate!).
After our meal we walked back towards our favourite gelatto bar with free wifi (from the bar next door!) and I'm typing this while Shaun tucks into an ice cream!
Best be off then!
Bye xxxx
