Well today we've been to three different cities! We started in Bologna this morning and checked out of Faulty Towers! I went downstairs for some breakfast but didn't want to stick around after someone set the toast machine on fire yesterday! We packed our stuff up, again! and went on our way.
We decided to stop off at Verona on the way to Milan so we got on a train and travelled to the setting of Romeo & Juilet! We got off the air conditioned train to a wall of heat!
Armed with a bottle of water and a map we went to explore Verona! First of all we got the bus to the city centre because we couldn't be bothered to walk! We wondered up the picturesque streets and piazzas and came across Juliet's house, the actually setting of the story! You could tell this was the main attraction of Verona because of the amount of people and shops selling romantic tat! We took our picture under the famous balcony and I quoted shakespeare- "Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo?" to which Shaun replied "oi I'm owa 'ere!"
Moving swiftly on from Juliet's house (I think some people didn't realise she was a fictional character!) we explored a bit more of the streets of Verona and walked along the riverside (that's what the photo is of!). We also stumbled upon a little sweet shop so bought some presents to bring home!
After legging it to the bus we got the train to Milan and watched out of the window as we passed Lake Garda and the Alps! We realised just how far we had travelled when Shaun read in the guidebook that Milan is actually closer to London than it is to Palermo (where we were a few weeks ago!). There have been a lot of hours spent on trains! We arrived in Milan around about 6:30 and really felt a difference in the heat- its a lot cooler here! Or we must just be getting used to it!
We got to the hotel, couldn't be bothered to walk so we got the metro, and got ourselves sorted. After more than 3 weeks travelling and only one trip to a laundrette we had to do some more washing, or rather I had to as Shsun added to the pile! Leaving our room full of wet clothes we went to a pizzeria around the corner recommended by the nice lady at reception! After last night's restaurant fiasco I just wanted a nice normal meal in a bog standard restaurant! We paid almost half of what we paid last night and came out very full and very happy! I had a massive calzone, which wouldn't even all fit on the plate! Shaun had this massive bowl of salmon pasta which he enjoyed! We then did our usual trick of not having dessert at the restaurant but finding a gelatteria and have an ice cream! Today in Verona I had an apple ice cream, which was a bit wierd but really nice! We had a little explore of Milan tonight because tomorrow is going to be a busy day! We only have 1 day to explore the whole of Milan, which is a huge city! So its time for a good night's sleep in a (very) small and cosy room!
Night night!
