Well today has been a long day! we got up and had our last continental breakfast in the hotel, I've been sticking with bread and butter, its either that or muesli with hot milk or cake!
We went to get the bus but found out they were off again so we had a lovely 3km to the station with a train to catch!
We eventually got to the train station and got on the train. The italian trains aren't as bad as I was expected from all the awful comments I got about them before this trip! But I would always recommend "going" before you get on!
We were on the train for 3 hours until we reached the edge of sicily, then the train drove straight onto a ferry! It was a very odd situation! So we got off the train and went onto the top deck of the ferry and had a little picnic in the sea breeze (more like a gail force wind actually!). Our picnic consistented off sliced edam cheese, proscuitto ham, salami and some bread which was hard enough to knock someone out!
We got back on the train for our next leg of the journey, only about 5 hours!
The train sped along past beaches and gorgeous coastlines! One thing I did get from the journey is that Italy is very mountainous and hilly! Oh and there are a lot of vine yards! I'm sampling some of sicily's finest right now! Shame its warm as we don't have a fridge in the hotel!
When we arrived in Naples we went straight to the hotel. (As Naples was described as the Liverpool of Italy I didn't want to hang aroundthe station to be mugged!) The hotel was right outside the station, which makes a change from the 3km hikes we've been doing!
We got in and got ourselves sorted and went to the restaurant next to the restaurant. Now I've heard Naples os good for fish, but everything on this menu had some sort of fish in! So I ended up with a margerita pizza! The waiter kindly sat us next to a fridge filled with all sort of things from the sea- octopuses, mussels, prawns. everything! Not great for the person who hates even looking at anything like that let along contemplate eating it! So we're back at the hotel, using the free wifi and we're going to plan our next four days here (I'm hoping to schedule a trip to the Amalfi coast!)
Speak to you all soon!
Caio! xx
