Today was our first day of hitting a proper italian beach! We got the train that we got yesterday to Sorrento, on thr Amalfi Coast which is apprently one of the most picturesque coast lines in Italy. It was almost 1:30pm when we got there because the train took so long! When we got there we headed straight for the beach, stopping off at a little cheap corner shop for a drink!
The views from the top of the cliff were amazing! The water looked gorgeous sparkling in the sun and the mountains around the bay looked stunning!
We walked down the steep ramp of the cliff (we weren't going to pay for the lift!) and we were expecting a small charge for a sunbed on the beach, but they wanted €10-15!! We wondered along trying to find a spot on the 10sqm free beach- which was crammed! Refusing to pay that much we went back up the cliff (almost needed oxygen at the top!) and went for some lunch. There was a cheap looking restaurant so we looked at the menu and even egg and chips was €7.50! We realised today wasn't going to be cheap! We went round to a nicer looking restaurant round the corner. The waiter sat us outside but in the shade- well I wanted to make the most of the sun so asked to be sat in the glorious sunshine. His response- "are you crazy? ok then" and sat us down. After 10 minutes sitting in the sun, I understood his response as we were both sweating profusely! Even our cutlery was too hot to pick up! The waiter was quite prompt when we asked for the bill, it was probably because he was concerned for our health!
So after that we went back down to the beach and paid €8 each to get a deckchair! (well its not everyday you go to the Amalfi Coast!) The guy was going to sit in a shaded spot until I told him where he could go, so he gave us two sunbeds instead! So thats what we did for the 3 hours! Shaun went in and out of the sea, tried to pursuade me to get in, but if anyone knows me they'll know that wasn't going to happen!
We got a few nice pictures today, one of Shaun bobbing in the sea infront of Vesuvius and some of the lovely views!
After the sun had lost its heat we goy back on the train and got talking to this Italian guy (who spoke quite good English) and he was telling us all about the mafia and how it controls Naples. Well that just put me on edge!
We got back to the hotel, got showered and went out for tea. We decided to walk into the centre of Naples because thats where the best restaurants were, but Naples isn't really the place you want to explore on a night time! So we stopped at this little pizzeria and Had a gorgeous pizza, probably the best one I've had so far in Italy! On the way back to the hotel we tried to find a supermarket for some chocolate. But no such luck at 10:30 at night! So we're back at the hotel, getting ready for another day!
We hope to explore Naples more tomorrow and visit one of the museums, hopefully I won't get too bored!
Caio for now!
