Well today was our last day in Palermo before we get the train to Naples tomorrow. We haven't really done alot today. We started by walking along to the cathedral (in the picture) it looked gorgeous on the outside abd was different from the one in Pisa and in Florence. Inside there were tombs and crypts but I didn't really fancy looking in there! Just up the road there was supposedly a palace with loads of mosaics and stuff but when we went it looked like government buildings and had solidiers standing outside so we thought we'd give that a miss!
We stopped off for a gelatto because it was so hot to be outside in the sun! It was getting to about 1pm and we decided to get the bus to a nearby town, Mondello, so we walked back to the hotel and stopped off for some lunch on the way. I got one of those funny ball things with rice and cheese in then remembered I didn't like it that much. Shaun got pizza, he had the right idea- stick with what you know!
We came back to the hotel and got changed because we heard Mondello had a beach. We went to the bus stop with our beach towels and flip flops and waited... and waited! A local man who didnt speak english was trying to tell us something about the bus, now I think he was trying to tell us the buses were off. After about 20 minutes of seeing no buses at all (on a road where buses usually pass every few seconds!) we went back to the hotel and played some cards! After I kept losing every game I decided to repack my rucksack and plan our trip to Naples.
After a while we went out for tea to a place where there seemes to be loads of bars snd restaurants. We went into this bar where you could buy a drink and there was a free food buffet full of sicilian snacks and nibbles! so that was our tea sorted! We ordered a cocktail each and filled some plates with food! Then when we were sick of that buffet we moved onto the next bar! We didn't do a bar crawl, it was more like a buffet crawl!
So that has been our time in Palermo, its been hot with some wierd food and we've seen a few people who looklike they're part of the maffia! (the trilby, cane and pressed suit gives it away!) Its been nice, but back to mainland Italy for the next part of our journey!
