We have just spent today exploring Naples and stretched our legs after the long train journey yesterday!
We started with a map (we got one last night then I instantly lost it, so I sheepishly asked for another one!). We headed down this street with a market on it and went past loads of places selling gorgeous looking italian food, oh and knock-off handbags! One thing I noticed is that people in Naples love their fish! We walked past these blokes throwing buckets of ice over two huuuge sword fish. When I pointed them out to Shaun they looked like startled rabbits in headlights! Probably sonething dodgey going on, it is Naples of course!
We walked along the sea front (or what looked like the sea front on the map) but there were huge cruise liners in the way so there wasn't much to see. We headed back into the centre of Naples after an ice-cream break and had a look in one of the many castles. Naples is a lovely city but there are a few dodgey characters around so we've been on our guard!
We wondered through piazzas and narrow streets and made it back onto the sea front. There was another castle further along (Castel dell'ovo) where we climbed to the top and there were some gorgeous views of Naples and Mount Vesuvius! (There will be loads of photos when we get back!)
We then walked back to the hotel so Shaun could have a nap. (after the dodgey anchovy pizza he had last night!)
After Shauns snooze we went out for tea to a little restaurant down the road and sat outside, away from the fish counter!! Neither of us could face any more pasta or pizza (or basically anything with tomatoes or cheese in it!) so I had steak and chips and shaun had chicken and chips. (apparently it made him feel better!) I felt very british having that meal but after 9 days of constant pasta or pizza I needed some variety!
So we're back at the hotel planning our next few days in Naples. We think we'll go to Pompeii tomorrow then fit in a bit more of Naples and hopefully get to see the gorgeous Amalfi coast!
