Neil's Round the World Trip!
I woke up at 12pm with a pounding headache and felt like i was going to peg it. A mixture of hangover and altitude sickness-not good! I read my New Zealand pamphlet on altitude sickness and read a particular paragraph stating "When flying into a high altitude location: rest, drink plenty of water and under no circumstances drink alcohol that's a NO NO NO! Oh well, I had a hot shower which seemed to help and then drank mate de coca (coca tea). I also drank litres of water and began to feel better. I sat in a nearby internet cafe and updated my journal. I then walked into the beautiful square Plaza de Armas. It's a square surrounded by stunning colonial buildings. I was looking for the Spanish school I want to join but couldn't find it. I sat in the square and was going to take pictures when I was accosted by 2 young Peruvian kids who pestered me to buy postcards and woollen finger puppets. I told them no "manana, manana" but they wouldn't let up. I even pointed out other gringoes to pester "otra personas alli". Eventually I had to walk into a alpaca store and so the cries of "amigo amigo por favor compras mi tarjetas" were finally drowned out. I walked back through the lovely alleyways and back to my hostel. I chilled out in my dorm and then went to the supermarket with the 3 Americans. Chris showed me where my Spanish school is, so I'll go tomorrow. We ate sweet potato crisps and were accosted by another streetkid selling woollen finger puppets. I had a power nap back at the hostel and then had dinner with Chris and Ariel. Chris made us chicken curry and it was really nice! We then had a bottle of wine and discussed all kinds of stuff like US politics (they were democrats thankfully) Mormans, Ecuador, crazy stories experienced like bribes, staying in prison for a night in Bolivia etc.
We all headed to bed around 12.30am and got woken up at 4am by the 2 English guys going on their Inca trail. Oh you know I lost my cheap watch in Pucon well one of the English guys had an extra watch he found in Whistler, Canada. He gave me it and it's quite nice too. However he said he felt guilty having it as on the underside of the watch there is an inscription "Happy 21st Kyle, Lots of Love, Natalie".
