Hello and welcome back! It was a really exciting week this week (although I feel like I say that every week). We went from having a basement ceiling that was visually just a bunch of wires to the first floor "skelton" being complete. Let me tell you how that happened.
On Monday, the guys poured the concrete for the ceiling of the basement, hiding all of the tubing that we saw last week. They then also completed connecting all of the basement window wells and the mold for the stairs between the basement and the main floor.
On Tuesday, it rained all day, I felt so bad for the guys. Along with pouring the concrete for the basement stairs, some wall molds were also created. Unlike the basement, the walls on the main floor will not all be out of concrete. Some walls will be made of concrete while the others will be constructed out of red cinder blocks. This is apparently for earthquake purposes.
Wednesday, the sun was shining again. The concrete was poured in the morning into the walls that needed it and preparation for the back filling of the dirt was started. A black mat was rolled out around the insulation on the outside of the house. This will protect the insulation. Paul only worked half a day, the other half he was at the house working away. He drilled holes in the basement walls for wires and plumbing.
The main floor really started taking shape on Thursday and Friday. Lots was happening but the two main projects on the go were: the back filling of the dirt and building the remaining walls with cinder blocks. Paul was off both days to help. We had a new guy from Haffa come with a little excavator to help fill the dirt back up around the basement. Paul helped him add the dirt and walked around with a vibrating machine to flatten it all out. Inside the house the guys stayed busy until Friday evening creating the walls. I had once mentioned that Paul said these cinder blocks wouldn't be placed as nicely as the ones in the basement. I expected much worse but I guess you can see in the pictures that not all the filler space is the same between the blocks. But overall not bad.
Well that's that, busy week, looking forward to what happens next week. Thanks for stopping by and reading.
