This week was the quiet before the storm week. Because of the Easter long weekend, Monday was a day off as well. All day Tuesday and until noon on Wednesday the excavator was digging out the hole for the new house. At noon on Wednesday this was completed and the excavator was loaded up and taken away.
On Thursday morning, something that is very unfamiliar with me happened. Houses in Switzerland are mostly made of concrete and cinder blocks, unlike the wood framing that many Canadian homes have. Naturally because of this the process is going to be very different for building the house. For this reason on Thursday they delivered the crane, which apparently is a normal item to have when building a house here. It took them from 7 am until around 10:30 to bring and unload and set up the crane. It was very interesting to watch, I of course was only awake for the second (but more exciting part) of the set up.
The construction company that we have chosen to go with is called HUG. They came on Friday to set everything up, so that they are ready to go on Monday morning. Paul explained to me that the first thing they will be completing on Monday morning is the basement floor. They will pour a layer of about 10 cm of concrete. Then they will add plastic "tubes" (they are more like tubes cut in half, so they are semi circles. These semi circles have little bash cut outs in the plastic), these plastic "tubes" (no idea what they are actually called) are added so that the metal cage that is placed on top does not sink to the bottom of the concrete but stays "floating" in the middle, where it is more effective. Then all of these steps are repeated once.
And that is all of the new updates for this week, I am sure next week I will be able to write much more!
Thanks for reading.
