After this week, it is actually starting to look like our basement and I can start picturing the rooms.
On Monday two guys came to build the walls in the basement. This is what the walls will remain like. We are not finishing the basement, which is very common in Switzerland. So Paul mentioned that they build the basement walls with a lot of effort to make sure that they look good. Apparently when this step is repeated for the walls on the main floor and upper floor the bricks will be red instead of grey and not placed with as much precision. I guess we will see the different in good time. HUG didn't bring enough mortar so they couldn't finish up on Monday, but by the time I woke up on Tuesday the walls had been completed.
On Tuesday, as mentioned, they finished the walls and then assembled the supports for the ceiling of the basement. They had to set up a scaffold system underneath in the basement and then placed and secured the yellow boards on top.
Wednesday looked familiar, they set up the steel work for the cement that will be arriving on Monday. So they started again with those plastic tubes and placed the steel rods on top in a grid pattern.
On Thursday the electricians and plumbers were here setting up their tubing. The electrical wires and (I think) the plumbing tubes will be pushed through these wires when it's ready for their insulation. The black tubes are for the plumbing and the red, blue and purple tubes are for the electrical. Paul and I weren't able to figure out why the electrical tubes had those different colours. Hans the foreman was really upset at the electricians because they told him they would need 2 days for the installation of the tubing and they only used ½ day. So the cement could have come on Thursday afternoon already and it could have set nicely over the weekend, but now it will just come on Monday.
Friday was our labour day long weekend, so no work was done then.
It's a short and sweet entry this week, but I still appreciate you coming by and reading. It's nice being able to share this exciting time with everyone reading. Stay healthy!
