Rightfully so I have been getting many people asking about the status of our house. I am sorry that I haven't posted anything in almost two months!! The month of August was a slow month for the house building. We left off just before the "building holidays" (which are typically three weeks). To trigger some memories, right before the holidays they sprayed in the sub floor. This needed a week per cm of floor to dry, meaning for our 8 cm we needed 8 weeks. Therefore for the month of August nothing too big happened, as most things needed to wait until the humidity in the house was much lower. Which is the reason I didn't send any updates. The electricians and the plumbers did some work throughout the month, and although it's important what they were doing, you couldn't really see any of it, because they were pulling wires and tubes and ….
The fun started happening the last week in August, we sped up the drying out processes with some dehumidifiers, so the tiles could start going in on August 24th. The tiles aren't completed yet as our tile guy has numerous projects on the go, but we are almost done the main floor tile and both bathrooms are all tiled. The only thing missing is the steps going down to the basement and the basement landing. I titled this entry "The Moment of Many Truths" because as the things are getting installed we get to see if we like our selections that we made or not. As far as the tiles go, I like them as much as I can like tiles, hehe I have even been helping with the tiling, I get to grout all of the tile work, at least I am staying out of trouble by working on the house, lol
The first week in September the ceiling guys came and installed the ceiling upstairs, it is all the same wood ceiling. This is a very common ceiling for Switzerland, we opted for a white wash to prevent too many wood optics clashing.
Last week the door and door frames were installed, well all but one. They lost one of our doors in their workshop but it has been located and will be installed tomorrow.
And the most recent change happened this past Saturday, when they "painted" on the stucco exterior. Since the beginning of the month the guys have been here preparing the outside. First they needed to surround the house in a layer of foam boards for insulation. Then they wrapped the house in a netting to support the base stucco coat. And then the process was finished on Saturday with the final coat. Next week the painter will come and paint it, but the colour is the same as the stucco that they already put on. Apparently it's recommended to paint the stucco afterwards to close off any pores, which prevents the wall from mould or any other fun things.
It's been so exciting to see it all come together. The projected move in date is the beginning of November. In a way I can't believe that this is really our house and that we will be moving in so soon. It's taken us so long to get to this point that it still feels like a dream to me. Anyways thank you for reading and hope you are still staying safe!
