The dog needed to go outside around 4am and it was raining - not heavy enough to hear it on the van roof but enough to soak everything on the washing line! At 6am when everyone else was ready to get up Nick took them off for a walk down to the beach and I had a sleep in with Katharine. The rain had stopped and the sun was out and nothing was too soggy! We had breakfast and then began schoolwork - it's got to the point where the kids rush us to start, each of them eager to finish first! We only have a couple more weeks of work left in their exercise books so we have decided to sit here for as long as possible to finish off. The camp is quiet, isolated and cheap. It has water, flushing toilets and dustbins and the beach is heaven. Plenty of rock pools to explore on a cold day and fantastic surf on a hot day - what more could you ask for!! After school we walked down to the beach and explored the rock pools before lunch, then went back down for a swim once we'd eaten. It was too cold and windy for me today so I just sat and watched but everyone else had a long swim. Anna mastered the boogie board and tackled some big waves, which made me feel sick watching and the others learnt to kneel and then stand on their boards - Jonny being a natural! Strange how a kid with such pigeon toes has great balance!! By the time we got back to the van Nick was freezing and we'd forgotten to turn the hot water on so he had a cold shower - it was his turn to spend the evening in trackie pants and multiple jumpers! He made the kids hot chocolate and then we all spent a few hours resting. The kids played games while Nick and I watched a few episodes of Fargo - excellent TV! After dinner Katharine and I took Tally for a quick walk down to the beach to check emails again and watched a beautiful sunset. Anna, Matty and Jonny were shattered and were happy to go to bed just after 7pm. Katharine sat and read and fell asleep by 8pm and Nick and I watched more Fargo until I fell asleep mid episode!!
