Although we woke up early there was no point in getting out of bed, as we couldn't start the generator until 8am. We read until everyone was awake and of course Tally joined us in bed as otherwise she barks until she wakes the kids up!! We had breakfast and packed up the van then stopped on the way out to fill up with water. We had a four an a half hour drive today crossing three State borders and we drove passed fruit and nut trees and grape vines all the way. At Robinvale we crossed over into NSW and got pulled over by the police for a random breath test just before we drove back into Victoria at Mildura. It's the first time we've been pulled over since leaving home and it happened in the middle of nowhere at 11 am!! We ended up driving around Mildura a few times trying to find somewhere for lunch where we could park the van. The kids were keen on fast food but we eventually found a bakery that made great coffee, cakes and fresh sandwiches - everyone was happy! Half an hour down the road we crossed over into SA and by 2pm we had reached Renmark. There are multiple free camping sites along the Murray in this region and the choice means you want the perfect spot!! We drove out to Barmera to a spot at Lake Bonney, which we had heard was beautiful but the main camping spot was very close to the road and on soft sand so instead we headed out to Moorook where the council offer $10 camping spots along the river We paid an extra $6.50 for a powered site as there was still one available and set up camp next to the playground. It was really hot, reaching a max of 38 degrees, so we had a quick lunch and then spent the afternoon down by the river swimming. Nick made dinner and then we had another swim instead of showers, as it was the only way to cool down. We used the air con in the van but it wasn't very effective and ended up sleeping with all the windows open.
