Everyone slept really well last night again and we didn't get up until 8 ish. This morning we had breakfast and then drove off to explore the South Alligator Region of Kakadu. We went to Mamukala first and walked out to the observation platform to view the wetlands. We spotted a short necked turtle and a few birds but no crocs. We then took the kids on a 3 km walk around the wetlands and although they seemed to enjoy it we didn't see any wildlife and it was very hot. When we'd finished we drove to the picnic area at South Alligator River and looked for crocs from the boat ramp. We saw a few swimming in very fast flowing muddy water but there weren't any on the banks. The kids voted to return home so we headed back to Jabiru calling in at the IGA and the bakery for lunch first. Once we'd eaten we took all the schoolwork to the tables by the pool and spent a couple of hours doing some work with the odd cooling dip in between. Around 430 pm we headed back out in the car and went to Ubirr, about 30 minutes away. We had a fantastic Thai meal at the Border Store. Three main dishes fed the six of us and it was fantastic having lots of fresh crunchy veggies. The kids ate quite a lot and dinner took a bit longer then we expected so we grabbed an ice cream and quickly drove off to the Art Site just down the road to watch the sun set. The track follows a 250m climb to the top of a rocky lookout and the views were amazing across the Nadab floodplain. There were at least 100 other people at the top doing the same thing but at least there was enough space for all of us. As soon as the sun had set everyone made a move back to the car park before it got too dark. We had a great drive home watching the stars and then everyone played for a bit before bed.
