Anna woke up at 7am and needed a wee, which meant she woke me up, as she can't quite get onto our toilet without help. Also, with a broken flush we have to do it manually with a jug of water! The sun was just coming up over the hills in front of us and looked stunning but it was too cold to get the camera out so I climbed back into bed instead and next thing it was 8am! We had our usual coffee in the sun and then packed up and hit the road, as today was our longest planned driving day of around 7 hours. We drove through Mount Isa and found another dump point to empty our toilet cassette then kept on driving - not an enticing place to stop! We stopped for lunch at Camooweal, the last town before the NT border. Unfortunately the only place we found to stop was a truck park next to the BP, which was really busy and full of caravans. We hit the road again and soon crossed into the Northern Territories - now we only have the ACT to go! We drove, drove, drove again stopping at Barkley Homestead Roadhouse for fuel and paid the most to date - $2.06c a litre. Around 4.30pm we reached 41 Mile Bore, our planned stop for the night. This stop was the one we knew would be the worst on our way through to Katherine as it was just a side of the road stop. When we pulled in there were already 20 or more vans parked around the camp and we couldn't find a spot on our own so pulled up beside some Victorians. We set our chairs up outside and made a coffee but it was too warm in the sun and the flies were out. Plus when the breeze went through there was red dust everywhere! Nick made dinner early and the kids watched a movie before bed, then Nick and I finished off Broadchurch and tried to ignore the road trains rumbling past. At least it's a bit warmer in the NT!
