Off to Albi today so after a light breakfast drove along the Tarn towards Albi through more breathtaking scenery darting through tunnels feeling you needed to breathe in if a car tried to pass you.
Albi cathedral is very impressive and suprisingly warm despite it's fortress like appearance due to it's red brick construction and occasional gothic concessions. Inside it is absolutely breathtaking. A huge organ spans the west end of the cathedral above a huge Fresco showing the Last Judgement. Sadly the organ obscured the focus point of the fresco ie God which I found rather odd.
The walls were all frescoes and delicately accented with gothic swirls and flourishes and we both found the interior more stunning than the many we had seen in the last two months. And we had seen a lot!
After this we had a wander to the lautrec gallery but I couldn't find any takers so we had some ice cream instead which was delicious. A quick walk around the shops and I bought some Leonidas Belgian chocolates for us all then we headed back to Rivecave. Weather was too iffy for a swim so we watched the unfolding of the News International drama while Adam made a super Shepherds Pie.
With that polished off we stayed up talking and listening to music before finally making our way to bed.
