Woke to a rather evil looking sky. Headed out of Mont St. Michel and grabbed pastries for breakfast and two hefty baguettes for lunch. Weather rained on and off, so hood was up and down for most of the journey. Headed to Carnac to see the famous standing stones from about 6000 years ago. There are 3000 of them all aligned like marching men, 11 abreast. Unfortunately by the time we got there it was throwing it down but we braved a stroll amongst them. They were quite magical to be so close to. Soon the rain got the better of us and we headed to our stay that night in the trendy La Mare Aux Oiseaux hotel and Michelin starred restaurant. We arrived in the pouring rain and used our terrible French to get into the room. It was nice enough but very much style over substance and had the bath and toilet in the corner of the room with a tiny glass modesty panel. Well I'm ok with a bath, but a toilet no way! We quickly got the room changed. Richard was fabulous with his French - 'Do all rooms have toilets IN them?' - had a bath and mooched until dinner. These serious restaurants always make me feel like I'm waiting to see headmaster. I get quite nervous. And our lack of ability to communicate holds us back even further. Still, the food was excellent. Creative without jarring. Flavours were vivid and well matched. Richard's mouth had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in his starter which got us both worried, but it went down shortly after. The beef we agreed was too salty which we advised the waitress. I'm not sure we were understood. However it's good to know that even with language barriers we can still be particular.
After a walk around the village, off to bed with a good nights sleep ahead of us.
