Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We went for our 1st dinner in the dining room last evening. It was less than a success. The company and conversation were great but the rest left a lot to be desired. Jeannie called for a reservation for 8:00. We got there a little before. There are two entrances to the dining room – we went to one who said our table was ready but we had to go to the other entrance. We went to the other entrance and they told us to wait. After waiting 10 to 15 minutes while they seated several groups without reservations, we finally were seated. Then it got worse. We were handed menus and they took drink orders. We were having a good conversation so we did not notice that a half hour had passed – no drinks, no food order, nothing. I stopped the head waiter and complained. He looked embarrassed, apologized and he took our order. When it came, there was one totally wrong order and they served other orders to the wrong people. The food itself was OK, but not exceptional. I hope this is the exception because it was a late port day and everyone hit the restaurants at once. If not, there may be many meals at the buffet which is wonderful.
We had a short but surprisingly good day in Gothenburg (Goteborg), Sweden. It is a clean attractive city that was originally designed by Dutch planners and has the look of a Dutch town. It has several canals and one of recommended things to do is to take a canal cruise in a Padden boat. We took the shuttle to town and went immediately went to the cruise boats. We got on the 1st one for the day. We got a great introduction to the city from the cruise. One of the highlights was going thru the "cheese slicer" which is a bridge so low we actually had to sit on the boat floor and duck down to avoid being hit. After the canal cruise, we went to a supermarket replenish some toiletries. We had to be back to the ship early so we decided that we would take it easy today and just head back to the ship.
