Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We had intended to send the night in Copenhagen but since we arrived a day early, we decide to spend an extra day in Munich. Using our Euro rail pass, we got a 1st class reservation to Munich through Hamburg. We boarded a clean modern train. European 1st class tickets get you seats in small cabins, usually holding about 6 people. We frequently have a cabin to ourselves, at most 2 others. Copenhagen is on an island. We were wondering how the train would get to the mainland. After about an hour we could see the Baltic coast approaching. The train, engine and about 4 cars drove right on a ferry. We were able to get off the train and enjoy a 2 hr. ferry ride to the mainland. When we got to the German mainline, the train drove right off. We had to change trains in Munich. It is a huge station and we almost missed our connection. The ride to Munich was beautiful; quaint towns and rolling very green countryside. There seems to be much less urban sprawl in Europe than in the US. We arrived in Munich after dark. Fortunately our hotel was right across the street from the railway station.
