Nashville Oyster Race, Passport 4
I apologize for not finishing writing this sooner! Time just slipped away. I think I left off at I Dream Of Weanie, am I right?
We were given a pool float and told that we needed to blow it up by the time we reached our next destination, which was Riverfront Park. Luckily, my legs had recovered and we were able to run most of the way. It is very tricky trying to blow up a float while running! The wind kept blowing us sideways, so we carried the float between two people. We ran past the football stadium, which judging from the sea of pink was the endpoint for the Pink Ribbon walk. We tried to see where to go as we crossed the bridge over the Cumberland River. We needed to be on the other side of the park, near the small building and ramp.
When we arrived, they told us one person needed to get ready to swim! In the meantime, we had to solve a sudoku puzzle and our float needed a little more air (the race volunteers had to squeeze it and there had to be a certain amount of distance between their fingers) before we would be cleared to swim. We had decided ahead of time that if it was distance, Karen would swim and if it involved diving down to retrieve something, I would do it. Since Karen was swimming, she took off her extra clothes while Isaac and I worked the puzzle. It didn't take long!
After checking our answers, Karen was given the go-ahead. I went down to the edge of the water to grab her shoes and shirt. She had to swim about 100 feet downstream to the volunteer waiting on a raft to punch our passport. It was only about 52 degrees outside! Brr!
We were also asked another question for later: this one asked who's motto was "I think pigs do fly!" The answer was Jack Cawthon of Jack's BarBQue, one of the race sponsors.
We ran back to the transition area and were told our next leg would be biking.
