Nashville Oyster Race, Passport 2
Our instructions told us to travel by bike to Ted Rhodes Golf Course, stopping along the way at Morgan Park to take a photo with the object shown in the picture. The idea for this leg was to get everyone on the Downtown Greenway since Greenways for Nashville was a sponsor and the beneficiary of our fundraising.
We headed up 3rd Avenue since we couldn't go straight up 4th (one-way street). Morgan Park is just off of the Downtown Greenway a few blocks past Bicentenniel Mall. If you didn't know where it was, you probably wouldn't find it! It is located on the border of the Germantown historic neighborhood in Nashville. We had to find the item in the picture and take a team photo with it. I'm hoping to get the picture from Isaac to add later.
From here, we had to head over to Ted Rhodes Golf Course. We couldn't find the street we were looking for to cut across since all the roads in Nashville have multiple names. It must be very confusing for people who visit us! We ended up taking Rosa Parks Blvd. (formerly Metrocenter, see what I mean?) all the way there.
When we arrived, we had to show our picture from Morgan Park to the Oysterteer before doing the challenge. We had taken it with Isaac's camera, which now wasn't working! It said we the card was full and needed to be formatted. We knew if we agreed to do that we would lose our pictures! After trying for a few minutes, we finally took his card out of his camera and put it in mine. We were finally able to see the picture! Whew! I would hate to have to ride back and take another one.
Our challenge here was to hit the golf ball between two orange Merrell flags. Karen and I are not golfers, so we let (okay, we made) Isaac take a shot at it. It took him a few tries, but hit a really nice shot between the flags. Unfortunately, the lady wasn't looking so we had to swing a few more time before we got it. I wish I would have taken pictures when we were stopped at the challenges, but I didn't think to do it.
From here, we had to ride back to the Transition Area. We knew we wanted to take a different route back, but we weren't sure what streets to take. We stopped a couple times to check maps and GPS. We did a good job navigating. When we got back into the heart of downtown, we stopped at a light to wait to cross. We looked up the street and saw thousands of people in pink coming our way. Apparantly the Breast Cancer Walk was the same day as the Oyster Race! The policeman let us cross before the walkers. Otherwise, it really would have put us behind! I wonder if any other teams got stuck in it?
