Hurricane Hanna Didn't Stop Us!
We were concerned when we found out that Hanna was going to be hitting the Carolinas. We watched the Weather Channel for days trying to figure out if we could still make the trip. At last, we figured that she would hit on our driving day, and we could monitor it as we drove.
Hanna ended up hitting the Carolinas sooner than expected and Corey's mom called us midday and let us know that she was already in Virginia.
We actually had a pretty pleasant day of driving...nice weather, good company, and we didn't start listening to the stuff we brought until Knoxville. Those first few hours flew by...a good thing when you still have 8 hours of driving left! We listened to some Mitch Hedberg and Corey's IPOD. He still hasn't given in to Harry Potter yet...but I'm hopeful for the return trip!
We arrived in Kitty Hawk at about 8:30 and grabbed a snack at the Black Pelican. Corey ordered a Clam Bake for us to share (called steamers around here) which is basically a bucket with steamed vegetables, clams, oysters, mussels and shrimp. I was fairly adventurous and tried everything but the oysters, and learned how to peel shrimp for the first time!
Hanna seemed to have passed through here without leaving much damage. All she left were some wild waves behind.
