Today is our last full day of recovery in kampot. When we woke up daniel went to the restaurant to sit with the view of the river while i went to see my friend about braids for my hair and a pedicure. He had set up the frame of a single bed and added he own pillars and hung white drapes on them. Like a makeshift four poster bed. On the tracks of the wooden bed was a big round dome shaped seat with a cushion and a plastic organiser with cuticle scissors and polish as well as multicoloured string for the hair braids. The evening before he came over to me and gave me a friendship band he made for me, he sad it was for good luck and he tied it around my ankle for me he use orange, white and pink as he noticed i was a fan of pink.
I sat in the chair and he began sectioning the left side of my hair for braids (or corn rows). He braided four different plaits and on the one at the top of my head was where he was going to put the string designs. I chose the colours purple, burgundy, pink and blue. When he finisjed wrapping the coloured string over my strand of hair it looked great and made me feel like a little girl on the beach in croyde all over again. It would probably be one of the last times i cam get away with such hairstyle as i', hoping to land a job that would not allow such trendy, whacky hairstyles. When he had finished with my hair he went on to do my pedicure.
I was torn between two different colours. He had so many nice colours to chose from and the colour pay off on all of them was nothing less than one fro, OPI or barry M. I decided against the bright pink colour for a more sexy, darker cross between dark pink and red. First he put cream on my cuticles then used the scissors to remove the excess pieces on skin around my neglected toes. After all the skin was gone (he felt obliged to show me just how much skin he had taken off) he used a lime with the top cut off to put on my toes. The woman on the beach in sihanoukville did the same thing, i think it's to clean the nail or make is shiny. He then applied the gorgeous berry colour i had chosen and when it had dried he asked me if i wanted a flower so i said why not. I'm not usually the type to decorate my nails with tacky designs of flowers, i'd much rather a cat or a heart but i agreed.
He panted a white flower on each of my big toes using a needle dipped in white nail polish and it doesn't actually look half bad. I also bought three friendship bands he made for some of the girls back home. Everything cost $7 including the hair but i gave him $9.
Feeling pampered, i limped (only slightly now) over to daniel where we ordered an iced lemon tea and breakfast: eggs with baguette and bacon. Because of the fishy scrambled eggs last time we chose boiled and fried eggs. I also forgot to mention one time i ordered muesli, fruit and yoghurt here for breakfast and i was well geared up after ordering as usual but when it came, i pulled back the lid to the yoghurt and it was tainted brown so i got a whiff of it and it was definitely sour. Another annoying food moment here because then i couldn't eat the muesli. Anyway, when our breakfast came it was lovely and the bacon is amazing, streaky and crispy and just damn right delicious.
After breakfast we didn't do much at all. Just lazed in the restaurant and sat by the river really. Daniel misplaced his flipflops and couldn't for the life of him remember where they were. But this is easy to do in asia as you take your shoes off before entering any building usually especially someones home. I spied them amongst the flip flops near the kitchen and it turns out one of the girls had been wearing them! In the afternoon i began picking at the scab on my left knee. I was getting so into it i went back to the room to fully get right involved. After picking, wetting, cutting and tearing finally the dried cotton wool had gone! I had a sponge bath in the shared showers, or a w****'s bath as Bethany would call it; crotch, armpits and face. Once i felt slightly more refreshed i went back over to sit with Dan letting my wound breathe and dry up.
For dinner we ordered kampot pepper chicken each and spring rolls to share which was served with a sauce which seemed to be made of the smell of cooking i hate! I think it's fish stomach sauce. For dessert we both had pancakes with bacon. We moved tables as there were two of the massive gecko-lizard things perched on a wooden beam above us. After dessert we called it a night and went back to our room for our last night in kampot. We watched an idiot abroad and had a baguette in bed which we got to take away. GREEDY. I woke up just after midnight feeling very hot and claustrophobic so i climbed over daniel and got out of bed for a cigarette amd to use the loo. Outside is so scary at night when everyones asleep and the nocturnal animals are about. I managed to eventually get back to bed but woke up soon after again at 03:00am so i just lay on the bed with the fan reaching me until i could fall asleep again.
