After one of the worst nights ever i couldn't wait to leave the room and get out of the guesthouse. We checked out and walked up the hill to monkey republic for breakfast. I was contemplating changing the vest i bought firstly, for a darker blue colour but then i ended up changing it completely for a vest with half a monkeys face on the front and "monkey island" on the back. For breakfast, i ordered scrambled eggs on toast and fruit salad and dan went for a full english. I was trying to be a bit healthier with the fruit salad which seems pointless as i swapped a piece of my toast for dan's because there was more butter on it; tragic.
Once we finished our food we sat outside on the tables under an umbrella, and to our surprise it started to rain! It was just a drizzle at first but got heavier and heavier, the first time i've witnessed rain since leaving london and it was so refreshing! We were feeling pretty hungry so we were naughty and ordered a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, one each this time. Food seems like such a great idea when you have the munchies. It got to around 13:00 and our mini bus still hadn't showed up but eventually came at around 13:15.
There were already a few people on already so we loaded our bags onto the back and sat together at the back. The barman from monkey island was also on the bus with us. We kept setting off and stopping, they were trying to fit as many people as possible on the bus much to the annoyance of everyone, especially an english woman near the front who was effing and blinding. It's so frustrating. In the end there was me, dan, barman from monkey island and his friend on the back seat and 11 others.
The journey was a very squashed and cramped one which resulted in a very numb bottom. It began pouring it down while we were driving and there was lots of lightening in the sky. Two hours after setting off we arrived in kampot and when we got out the minibus, as usual, we were greeted with people advertising guesthouses but we had already planned to stay at Olly's although we hadn't booked.
We got a tuktuk there and Daniel went in to see if they had room which they didn't so we went 50 metres down the road to "Samon's villa" and dan got us a room. Not a room sorry, a wooden shack WITH AN UPSTAIRS. When i first walked in the room it was pleasant with a double bed and mosquito net on the bottom floor and then up the wooden steep rickety steps there was another double bed with mosquito net and a large open window which provides a good neighbourhood watch viewpoint.
We spent the evening chilling by the river and smoking before heading to the restaurant for dinner. The menu is massive with not a lot of choice but that's usually a good sign of quality and freshness. I went for kampot pepper chicken and rice which was really nice and Dan had some traditional dish too. We went back to our room to watch an idiot abroad and get some sleep. We got really hungry around 22:30 so we began googling for delivery in kampot when we finally found one not far who close at 00:00 and offer free delivery! After spending a while choosing our pizza, i emailed them asking if i could order but got no reply so daniel called them and they said they were closed! Bummer! We were sooo hungry and frustrated that there was no food. It was a funny experience though. Neither of us could sleep at around 1:30 and we heard giggles coming from the river so we literally were spying on what was going on. Like getting kicks off of observing other people's. Quite sad and hilarious at the same time! After a while of spying we both fell asleep.
