I woke up really late today after a long night and it was around 11:30 when i managed to drag myself out of bed, only to the bathroom though and then chilled a little longer on the bed. At around 13:00 we decided to go out and get something to eat and we ended up in a small pizzeria with the biggest menu i think i've seen in my life.
I didn't fancy pizza at all so just went for a tuna sandwich and fries. I got an iced coffee to drink which tasted nice and sweet as we sat looking out on the street. We were approached a lot by locals selling raybans and books and cigarettes which was annoying to say the least. When the food arrived there were barely any fries at all, a vietnamese sized handful, not even that but i didn't mind as i need to cut down on the crap now anyway.
We dropped off some laundry and headed for a walk and to go to the market. We strolled around a park in the middle of two main roads where it seemed there was a fair going on with each stall having a competition as to who could play the loudest music. We continued on the side of the park and sat down to look at the map when we were approached by a young vietnamese man with a notepad. At first i was expecting him to be doing a survey but low and behold he needed help with his english homework so he sat down next to us as we helped him answer a comprehensive multiple choice question booklet.
As daniel was helping him a different man approached me in a very humble and shy manner. He sat down next to me and said (the best he could) that his teacher told him to speak with english people to improve his knowledge of it so we began chatting. I asked him if he could point out where abouts we were on the map which led to a 30 minute discussion of which route to take and where to go but he explained the same thing over and over again. I asked him what his favourite vietnamese food was and he said something like "beiu xus" which is a rice pancake that you wrap vegetables in.
It was getting dark and we were still talking about a shopping mall and looking at the map but eventually we bid farewell. He was very sweet an thanked me for speaking to him which was crazy as i talk to anyone hehe. We walked up a boulevard to a massive roundabout with motorbikes darting around it in no sense of organisation at all. We had to cross it in order to reach the market which wasn't very difficult and they all swerve around you and drive slowly enough. When we reached the market it was closing, damn it. I'm on the hunt for chang elephant trousers and haven't seen any, only ones with wierd designs.
We walked through the market and near the end was a pungent smell of fish, it must be the fish market. We went on a small walk around different streets soaking up the busy atmosphere of vietnam and it's such a big city! After a stroll we headed back to our guesthouse "hotel kim" and got some sleep.
