Our midway point and our earliest start to date. Our alarm call was booked for 6:45, eek! After our first breakfast in Horizon (not as civilised as those in Medina) we met the others for our P&O trip to Santiago.
There we saw the Palacio Moneda. The old Chilean mint which is now the presidential offices. Twice a week they change the guard and purely by fluke, we were there to see it. There were horses involved and they were patted in unison! The band also played ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’.
We then went to the Plaza de Armas. There is an amazing old post office, a weird statue and the cathedral. We went into the cathedral, which was stunning inside and way larger than it looked. As we were waiting in the coach to leave, I realised that there was free Wi-Fi and I was able to upload one of my blogs.
We were then taken to a restaurant for lunch. A Chilean show was performed while we ate. I had soup, salad, salmon and dessert. Oh yes and about a bottle of red wine. There was a fairly fast Wi-Fi connection, so I was able to update my apps on my phone and iPad. I also uploaded some more blogs. For some reason I couldn’t upload my blog from 31 January when we sailed past the Amalia Glacier. I’ll upload it when I get home so my book is complete for when I print it.
Santiago is OK but it’s not a place I’d hurry back to. It was still a fun, if tiring trip. Back in San Antonio the weather was about 10 degrees cooler. After such a huge lunch, Rob, Linda, Barbara and I had a light meal in the Horizon buffet. Rob then went to his cabin and we took part in the English Lit quiz. 10/20! Half was about various novels some of which were American and the other half about that well known English author Stephen King!
